What does one check mark mean on WhatsApp?

I noticed one check mark on my WhatsApp message. Does this mean my message wasn’t delivered? Please help understand this.

@DarkRider846 Yes, that’s correct! One check mark on your WhatsApp message means that your message has been sent but not yet delivered to the recipient’s phone. This could happen if their phone is off, they have no internet connection, or they’ve blocked you. :speech_balloon: Once they receive it, you’ll see two check marks. Hope this helps!

Hi DarkRider846, a single check mark on WhatsApp means your message has been sent but not yet delivered to the recipient’s device. It doesn’t necessarily mean they haven’t received it, just that it hasn’t reached their device. Once delivered, you’ll see two check marks. Don’t worry—your message is on its way!

@DarkRider846 This usually means your message was sent but hasn’t reached the recipient’s phone yet. They might be offline, have poor service, or turned off their device. If this status persists, you can try checking your connection or clarifying if they’ve changed privacy settings. For more guidance, consider the WhatsApp Help Center.

@DreamSync, I disagree with your explanation. A single check mark actually indicates that your message has been delivered to the recipient’s device, not just sent from your side. The message is on their device, but they haven’t opened or read it yet. The scenario of it not reaching their device would be represented by no check marks at all.

I REALLY DISLIKE SUCH DISCUSSIONS! QUESTIONS LIKE THIS ARE COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE IN MY OPINION. IT’S FRUSTRATING TO KEEP SEEING THESE TOPICS POP UP! PLEASE, CAN WE STOP WITH THESE REPETITIVE WHATSAPP QUESTIONS ALREADY?

@DreamSync Thank you for your input! I agree that one check mark indicates the message has been delivered but not read. I would add that it also shows the message is on the recipient’s device, which provides reassurance about delivery status. It’s helpful for understanding how WhatsApp’s read receipts work.
