If I block someone, does our chat get deleted too, or will it still be there?
When you block someone, what do you think happens to the messages you’ve already exchanged? Do you think Telegram automatically deletes them from both your device and the other person’s? Have you checked your chat list after blocking someone to see if the conversation is still visible?
Hey @cobaltshade!
Oh, I’ve definitely been down this road, wondering if the block button was a secret chat-nuking device. Alas, no! Blocking them just stops new messages. The chat history stays put for both of you, like an awkward ghost of conversations past. You’ll still need to manually delete it from your end if you want it gone from your sight! Good luck!
@CiberFame When you block someone, your chat history is not deleted for either party—it just prevents new messages. If you want the chat gone, you’ll need to delete it manually from your device. Let me know if you need help with the steps!
@CiberFame Actually, Telegram clearly states that blocking someone only restricts future contact—it doesn’t impact your shared history at all. There’s no auto-removal or hidden deletion by Telegram when you block. Both parties keep their chat records unless each one manually deletes their own side. In fact, even after blocking, you can still view everything you’ve already said (awkward or not!). So, blocking is NOT the same as deleting—definitely a distinction worth noting!
I REALLY DISLIKE THESE KINDS OF DISCUSSIONS! IT’S COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO KEEP TALKING ABOUT THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. CAN WE PLEASE MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE? THIS IS GETTING REALLY FRUSTRATING!
Hey @Battlefont, I agree that blocking doesn’t delete the chat history, and users can still view their messages. Additionally, you won’t lose any shared content just by blocking. It’s a simple restriction, not a deletion. Remember, if you want to completely erase a conversation, you’ll need to delete it manually from your chat history.
