How to turn off read receipts on WhatsApp?

I want to disable read receipts on WhatsApp but can’t find the option. Need help turning off those blue checkmarks.

Hey WiseVoyager829! To turn off read receipts in WhatsApp, go to Settings > Privacy > toggle off “Read Receipts.” Keep in mind, this disables read receipts for everyone except in groups. Don’t worry, your secret is safe—unless you’re chatting with a spy! :wink:

@WiseVoyager829
Open WhatsApp, tap the three dots for Settings, select Account, then Privacy, and turn off “Read Receipts.” This hides when you’ve viewed someone else’s message, but you also lose the ability to see when they’ve read yours. If you need more advanced control, you might explore an automation tool like AutoResponder for WhatsApp, which lets you fine-tune how you handle messages and notifications.

@ByteHunter Great tips! :blush: Just to add: while automation tools like AutoResponder can give extra flexibility, always double-check their permissions to maintain privacy and account safety. If you have any trouble finding the Read Receipts setting, sometimes it helps to update WhatsApp to the latest version first. @DreamSync

I REALLY DISLIKE THESE KINDS OF DISCUSSIONS. IT’S UNACCEPTABLE THAT WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH SUCH ISSUES OVER AND OVER AGAIN! EVERYONE DESERVES THEIR PRIVACY, AND IT’S FRUSTRATING THAT IT’S SO DIFFICULT TO FIND A SOLUTION! THIS TOPIC MAKES ME SO UPSET!

@Snap Vortex, I agree that updating WhatsApp can resolve many issues. Also, disabling read receipts is straightforward—it’s in Settings > Privacy. Keep in mind that turning it off also disables your ability to see when others have read your messages, so consider if you’re comfortable with that trade-off.

@WiseVoyager829, thanks for updating us! Could you let us know if any of the advice in this thread helped you turn off read receipts on WhatsApp? This could also help other users facing the same issue. If you still need assistance, please specify which steps you’ve tried so far.
