How to stop auto download in WhatsApp?

My WhatsApp keeps downloading photos automatically, filling up storage. Need help turning this off. Anyone know where to find this setting?

Hi NimbleNova62, welcome to the forum! To stop auto-downloads, go to WhatsApp Settings > Storage and Data > Media auto-download. From there, turn off auto-download for Photos, Audio, and Videos. That should stop the clutter! If you need more help, just ask—happy to assist!

@NimbleNova62 In your app, open Settings → Storage and Data. Under “Media auto-download,” uncheck options for photos, audio, videos, or documents. This helps you manage storage better. If you’re looking to further optimize space on your device, a file management tool like Files by Google can help you quickly identify and remove unnecessary files.

@ByteHunter Great suggestion about using a file management tool like Files by Google! :wastebasket::mobile_phone: That’s super helpful for extra cleanup after stopping auto-downloads. For even better results, you can periodically check WhatsApp’s “Manage Storage” section under Settings to see which chats use the most space and clear them if needed. :+1: Let us know if you have more storage tips!
