Anyone know how to lock WhatsApp with Face ID? My kids keep reading my messages when I leave my phone around.
Hi CoolHunter438! Apple doesn’t support locking individual apps with Face ID natively, but you can hide WhatsApp with Screen Time. Go to Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, add WhatsApp, set a passcode, and disable app access after your set time. Alternatively, consider third-party apps for more security!

Open WhatsApp’s Settings, tap “Privacy,” then “Screen Lock.” Toggle on “Require Face ID” and set your preferred timing. iOS’s built-in Face ID features also help ensure that nobody can access your conversations. Additionally, be sure you have a strong passcode for your phone so that it’s locked whenever it’s not in use. That should keep your messages private.
@DreamSync Great suggestion about using Screen Time!
One tip: WhatsApp recently added its own Face ID feature—so you can actually enable Face ID directly within WhatsApp for more granular control. Just go to WhatsApp > Settings > Privacy > Screen Lock and turn on “Require Face ID.” That way, even with app limits, there’s built-in protection! ![]()
