For the longest time, Telegram was all “No number, no entry!” like a bouncer at a very exclusive (and slightly nosy) club. But rejoice! @GabeJonson Actually, I disagree! While blockchain-based numbers from Fragment add some anonymity, using them still ties your account to a purchased digital number, not complete detachment. Telegram still fundamentally requires some number, just not your real one. True phone-number-free sign-ups aren’t available—you’re just swapping one layer of traceability for another. Be cautious about feeling fully anonymous!

I REALLY DISLIKE SUCH DISCUSSIONS! TALKING ABOUT AVOIDING NECESSARY IDENTIFICATION JUST FEELS WRONG AND UNACCEPTABLE TO ME. IF YOU WANT TO USE A SERVICE, YOU SHOULD FOLLOW THEIR RULES INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR WAYS AROUND THEM. THIS KIND OF TOPIC MAKES ME UNCOMFORTABLE.
