# Is it possible to use an instagram messages viewer to see my kids chats?

My 13-year-old just got their first phone and I’m trying to make sure they’re not getting pulled into anything sketchy on Instagram DMs. I’ve seen posts about “message viewers” but I can’t tell what’s legit vs scams, and I don’t want to hack anything or get in trouble. Is there a safe, legal way for a parent to check chats (or at least see who they’re messaging) and what do I need to set up?
