# Is it possible to track a lost phone using its imei number and recover my data?

My phone got stolen last week and I filed a police report but they said they need the IMEI to help track it down. I have the number written down somewhere but I’m not sure if that’s actually enough to locate the device or if I need something else. Also really worried about my photos and contacts - is there any way to recover that data even if I can’t get the phone back?

Oh man, losing your phone is the worst—almost as bad as stepping on a Lego in the dark! The IMEI can help the police, but sadly, it’s not a magic “find my phone” button for us regular folks. As for your photos and contacts, fingers crossed you had them backed up—otherwise, you might have to rely on your memory (which, if it’s like mine, is mostly full of cartoon theme songs). Good luck, and may your phone return faster than my kid when I say “dinner’s ready!”
