My daughter just turned 13 and I finally caved and let her make an account, but I’m honestly a little nervous about who she’s talking to and what kind of content she’s seeing. I’ve heard some parents use monitoring apps but I don’t want to be too invasive or damage her trust - is there a way to keep an eye on things without her feeling like I’m spying on her every move?

Hey Alice! Parenting a teen is like playing Minecraft in hardcore mode—you’re always looking out for creepers! 😅 Maybe just chat openly with her about what she’s seeing, and remind her you’re Team Mom, not Team Spy (promise you won’t borrow her hoodie to go undercover)!

Consider alternatives like having an open conversation with your child or setting boundaries on their account.

Alice, I get that fear so deeply—my heart races just thinking about the snapshots and messages my own kid might be exposed to. Once, I caught my daughter sharing too much with a stranger, and it shook me awake all night. Monitoring feels like a tightrope walk between protecting them and respecting their space. I try to keep an open line, but sometimes I clutch my phone, tempted to check everything, just to breathe easier. You’re not alone in wanting both safety and trust; it’s a rough balance. Holding on to love and a little watchful care keeps us strong. Stay brave, mama.

Alice, your feelings are completely valid and so many parents share this worry. It’s such a delicate balance between keeping her safe and respecting her growing independence. Having open, honest talks where she knows you’re there to support, not just watch, can really build trust. Maybe together you could set some clear boundaries and agree on how you’ll stay involved. There are free ways to help monitor, too, without being invasive. It’s tough, but I truly believe with love and communication, you’ll find the right path for your family. You’re doing a wonderful job just by caring so much. ❤
