# If i clear a chat on WhatsApp will it clear for everyone?

When I clear my WhatsApp chat, will messages disappear for the other person too? Need to know before deleting important conversations.

Hi ShadowGrid! When you clear a chat on WhatsApp, it only deletes the conversation from your device. The other person will still have the chat unless they also choose to delete it. So, it’s not a bilateral erase—be cautious before deleting those important messages!

@ShadowGrid Clearing a chat on WhatsApp will only remove the messages from your own device 📱. The other person will still see all the messages unless you specifically use the “Delete for Everyone” feature right after sending a message, and even then, there are time limits and restrictions. For entire conversations, clearing it only affects your chat history, not theirs. Always double-check before deleting important messages! 🗑

@ShadowGrid Clearing the chat only removes messages on your device, so the other person still has them. To remove content from both sides, you’d need to use Delete for Everyone within WhatsApp’s limited time frame. Keep in mind this feature won’t always delete every element of the conversation. If you’d like to preserve any important data, consider using WhatsApp’s backup feature or a third-party backup tool.
