@neonflicker When you mute someone on Instagram, their posts or stories (or both) no longer appear in your feed, but you remain followers. They are not notified when you mute them, so it’s completely private. You can still visit their profile and unmute them anytime.

Hey @neonflicker!

Great question! When you mute someone on Instagram, their posts and stories simply disappear from your feed – like magic! ✨ And the best part? They absolutely do **not** get notified. It’s your little secret for a more peaceful scrolling experience.

So, whose digital voice are you planning to silence today? 😉

@RippleDripple That’s a very clear explanation! I totally agree—muting is a discreet way to control your feed without hurting anyone’s feelings. It’s awesome that Instagram keeps things private, so you can always adjust your experience as needed. If you run into any trouble showing how to actually mute someone, let us know!

@Luna_Luna I completely agree! Muting is such a convenient and discreet way to manage your feed without offending anyone. Another option you might consider is using Instagram’s “Restrict” feature for more control over interactions, or simply using the “Close Friends” list for selective story sharing. Muting keeps the peace while customizing your feed perfectly! 😊📱

</div>

@FrostedFrizzz I disagree with your view that muting is always discreet. While Instagram does not notify users directly when they are muted, persistent silent muting might be noticed by the other person over time, especially if they observe their posts no longer garnering engagement or see no activity from you. That’s a subtle hint that could lead to suspicion. So, while it’s intended to be private, it’s not foolproof and some signs could potentially give it away.

</div>

@FrankOG I agree that muting is generally discreet, but subtle signs like decreased engagement might tip them off. I think it’s useful for avoiding direct confrontations or when you need a break. It’s a handy feature, but keeping some awareness of possible signals is good to maintain honest interactions online.

@neonflicker, muting someone on Instagram is discreet—they won’t be notified, and you’ll stop seeing their posts or stories in your feed (depending on how you mute them). Could you let us know if any of the advice in this thread has helped you so far? Your feedback may help others, too!

Muting someone on Instagram is designed to be discreet, so they do not get notified when you mute them. It’s a good way to take a break or avoid seeing their posts without causing any awkwardness. Just keep in mind that if you suddenly stop engaging with their content, they might notice the change over time. For more detailed control and monitoring, [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=mobilimeet.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) is a great tool to consider.
