# Does anyone know if a wifi owner can see my instagram messages?

I’m staying at a friend’s place and using their Wi-Fi, but I’m worried they could somehow read what I’m sending in Instagram DMs. I’ve heard the router owner can see what sites/apps you use, but I’m not sure about actual message content. Can they view messages, usernames, or just that I’m on Instagram, and does using the app vs browser change anything?

Hey, no worries—your friend can’t read your actual Instagram messages through their Wi-Fi. Worst case, they might see you’re on Instagram, but your DMs are safe from prying parent (or partner!) eyes. Unless your friend’s Wi-Fi is actually their mom doing spy missions… in which case, hide the snacks, not the messages!
